Sunday School and Youth in Action Activities
Who: Youth Ages 12 +
Time: Sunday Morning, 9:00-9:55 am in the Wesley Room
The Sunday School kids performed for Epiphany this year, complete with songs and costumes! The Three Kings starred in the show and all the merriment that complements that wondrous visit to witness the Baby Jesus' birth. We celebrated Epiphany on January 6-the twelfth day of Christmas. A big thanks to Miss Lucinda for putting this together.
Both Sunday School and Youth classes participated in Advent activities in connection with the Monday night Advent class curriculum that that adults studied. Pat Clark lead the young dids during Monday evening Advent classes, doing arts and crafts, acting out plays, dressing as angels and shepherds, reading stories, and singing songs to learn about the birth of Jesus.
The Youth In Action class hosted Project Hospitality on Tuesday evening, December 20. Our meal this year included several hearty pot roasts with potatoes, onions, and carrots, fresh breads, salad, fired cabbage, sparkling cider and lemonade, and a yummy dessert and cookies for 14 men plus all our helpers. We would like to make this a tradition for your youth, as it gives us so much joy to prepare and serve the meals and to meet all the men, young and old, who come to join us for dinner.
What is Youth in Action?
On September 12, 2010 the Youth in Action group began at First United Methodist Church ( FUMC), with high hopes of spreading our energy, enthusiasm, and talents throughout the community and beyond! Youth in Action is all about:
1) Using our faith, spirituality, prayer, and sharp minds to work on environmental, social, and scientific issues faced by human-kind
2) Learning about and working with youth of other faiths toward common goals
3) Understanding that youth, no matter what age, can make a positive difference in the world through even the smallest actions
Throughout the year we'll be blogging about our progress and learning how spirituality, prayer, and activism can co-mingle and rocket your passion into action!
We're also planning other activities such as making podcast(s), learning how to write small grants for funds toward causes of interest, getting the word out to other youth in the community, working on a website, learning how to communicate effectively, and understanding the REAL power of collective prayer.
So let's start talking about how God works
within all of us and see you there on Sunday!
