First United Methodist Church will again be participating in Project Hospitality, a city-wide project for helping the homeless, sponsored by the Interfaith Council for the Homeless. First Church provides dinner, sleeping arrangements at the church and meals for approximately 14 men every Tuesday night from December through February. Participation in this program has become a tradition at First Church and those who have helped before realize that doing so can be a very rewarding and life changing experience.
This year we will be hosting for twelve nights. Each night requires the participation of about ten volunteers to perform such duties as driving the church van to the Salvation Army to pick up the men participating in the program, setting up tables, sleeping cots and pads, preparing and serving dinner and breakfast, preparing sack lunches, overnight hosting, cleaning up and putting things away, laundering sheets and pillow cases, and returning the men to the shelter. There are a wide variety of tasks and something for everyone. This is a major service project for our church and is a great opportunity to help the homeless in our community. This is one project where we are not asking for money, just your time.
During the next several weeks a sign-up table will be in the hallway and/or Social Hall. Please consider putting your faith into action by becoming a part of this vital mission project. You will be glad you did.
Currently there are openings for preparing dinners, breakfasts, and lunches between now and the end of February.
For more information or to volunteer, please call the church office at 520 622-6481.
Project Hospitality Needs Sheets
Project Hospitality is held every Tuesday night at First United Methodist Church (FUMC) and needs extra sheets. Any size will work. Volunteers are always needed to help also. For more information, please call the church office at 520 622-6481.
Food Is Needed at the Food Bank
The Community Food Bank is very low and needs our help. Please put non-perishable items in the Food Bank box in the narthex (entry way into the sanctuary.) Checks can also be given and dropped in the offering basket. Make them payable to FUMC (First United Methodist Church) and write "Food Bank" on the memo line. Thank you!
